Terms and Conditions

These terms are the agreement between you and Spyce Social Limited, a company incorporated in Nigeria (RC 8465985) with its registered office at 721 Road H Close, Plot 1418, Festac Town, Lagos State, Nigeria, for using the Spyce app, spyce.social and Spyce events (the “Services”). By creating an account or buying a ticket, you agree to these terms and our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, please do not use Spyce.

1. What Spyce is

Spyce is a social dating app. It lets you match with people on faith, language, heritage, values and genotype compatibility, and connects online dating with in-person events. Events are run either by Spyce or by Premium members (“hosts”).

2. Who can use Spyce

To use Spyce you must:

  • be at least 18 years old;
  • be legally able to enter this agreement;
  • not have been convicted of a violent or sexual offence, or be required to register as a sex offender;
  • not have been banned from Spyce before;
  • use Spyce for genuine personal connection, not commercial purposes (except hosting events as allowed in section 9).

3. Your account and verification

  • Give accurate information and keep it up to date. Use only photos of yourself.
  • Keep one account and keep your login secure. You are responsible for activity on your account.
  • Selfie verification confirms that you match your photos. It does not confirm anyone’s identity, background or intentions, so stay alert even with verified members.

4. Community rules

You must not:

  • harass, threaten, stalk, bully or intimidate anyone, on the app or in person;
  • post hate speech or abuse based on tribe, ethnicity, religion, nationality, gender, sexual orientation, disability or genotype;
  • scam, ask for money, gifts or financial details, or promote investments, crypto or other schemes;
  • impersonate anyone, create fake profiles or misrepresent your age or relationship status;
  • share sexual or violent content, or anyone’s private information, including another member’s genotype, without their permission;
  • offer or ask for paid sexual services;
  • use Spyce for advertising, recruitment or spam, or scrape or copy data from it;
  • do anything illegal.

Choosing who you want to meet based on faith, heritage or genotype is a personal preference and is allowed. Treating anyone with disrespect for who they are is not.

5. Faith, heritage and genotype features

  • These features are optional. Share only what you are comfortable sharing.
  • Information on profiles, including genotype, is self-reported unless clearly marked as verified. Spyce does not check its accuracy.
  • Genotype compatibility is general information, not medical advice or a medical test. Talk to a doctor or genetic counsellor before making health or family planning decisions.

6. Your safety

  • Spyce does not run criminal background checks on members or hosts.
  • Meet in public for first dates, tell someone where you are going and arrange your own transport.
  • Date Mode tools (SOS, emergency contacts and live location sharing) are there to help, but they depend on your phone, signal and settings, and do not replace emergency services. In danger, call your local emergency number.
  • Report anyone who breaks these rules through the app or at hello@spyce.social. We review every report.

7. Subscriptions

  • Spyce is free to join. Spyce Plus and Spyce Premium are paid monthly subscriptions with the features described in the app at the time you buy.
  • Subscriptions bought through the App Store or Google Play are billed by Apple or Google, renew automatically each period unless you cancel at least 24 hours before renewal, and are cancelled in your app store account settings. Deleting the app or your account does not cancel a subscription.
  • Refunds for subscriptions are handled under Apple’s and Google’s refund policies.
  • If you are in the UK or EU, you have 14 days to cancel a purchase of digital content, but by starting to use paid features straight away you agree that this right ends once access begins.
  • We may change prices. Changes apply from your next renewal, and we will tell you in advance.

8. Events and tickets

  • Each event listing shows who is running it: Spyce or a host.
  • Tickets are personal to you unless the listing says they can be transferred. You must be 18 or over, and you may be asked for ID at the door.
  • Spyce events: you can cancel for a full refund up to 48 hours before the start time. After that, tickets are non-refundable unless the event is cancelled.
  • Host events: the host’s refund policy, shown on the listing, applies. It must allow at least a full refund if the host cancels or makes a major change to the date, time or venue.
  • If an event is cancelled, you will receive a full refund of the ticket price to your original payment method within 14 days.
  • Spyce community rules apply at events. Hosts and venues can refuse entry to, or remove, anyone who breaks them, without a refund.
  • Event photos or videos may only be taken of people who agree to it. Spyce will ask your permission before using any photo of you to promote Spyce.

9. Hosting events (Spyce Premium)

Premium members can create ticketed events and earn from ticket sales. If you host, you agree that:

  • you will pass identity verification with our payment provider, Paystack, before you receive payouts;
  • listings will be accurate, including the date, venue, price, what is included and your refund policy;
  • you are responsible for running the event safely and lawfully, including venue agreements, licences (such as alcohol licences), insurance, capacity limits and age checks;
  • you will follow the Spyce community rules and any reasonable safety guidance we publish;
  • Spyce keeps a platform fee of 10% of each ticket price, plus any payment processing fees shown when you create the event; you receive the rest, paid within 14 days after the event, to your verified account;
  • refunds owed to attendees, including for cancellations or chargebacks, may be deducted from your payouts or future payouts;
  • you are responsible for your own taxes on what you earn;
  • you act independently. You are not an employee, agent or partner of Spyce;
  • Spyce may review, edit, pause or remove any event, or stop payouts while we investigate, if we believe it breaks these terms or puts people at risk.

10. Your content

You keep ownership of the photos and content you post. You give Spyce a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to host, display and process it to run and promote the Services, which ends when you delete it or your account (except where others have already seen or saved it, or we must keep it by law). Don’t post content you don’t have the rights to. The Spyce name, logo, app and website belong to Spyce, and you may not copy them.

11. Suspension and termination

You can delete your account at any time in Settings. We may warn, restrict, suspend or remove any account, event or content that breaks these terms or puts others at risk, sometimes without notice where safety requires it. If we remove a paid account for a serious breach, you will not receive a refund.

12. Our responsibility to you

  • We provide Spyce “as is” and cannot promise it will always be available or error-free, or that you will find a match.
  • We are not responsible for how members or hosts behave, online or in person, but we act on reports and remove people who break our rules.
  • Nothing in these terms limits our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud, or for anything else that cannot be limited by law. Your statutory consumer rights are not affected.
  • Otherwise, we are not liable for indirect or unforeseeable losses, and our total liability to you is limited to the greater of the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim and ₦150,000, or the equivalent in your local currency.

13. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms as Spyce develops. If a change is significant, we will tell you in the app or by email at least 14 days before it takes effect. If you keep using Spyce after that, the new terms apply.

14. Governing law and disputes

These terms are governed by the laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, and disputes go to the courts of Lagos State. If you live elsewhere as a consumer, including in the UK or the EU, you keep the protection of the mandatory consumer laws of your country and can bring a claim in your local courts. Please contact us first so we can try to resolve any problem.
